We opened in 1885 (Meiji 18) in Senhata Village, but closed temporarily for the war. Seeking after spring water, we reopened in 1949 (Showa 24) in Rokugo Town (present-day Rokugo in Misato Town), where the first mayor of Rokugo Town, Mr. Hatakeyama, allowed us to use some of his residence property to move our business.
In 1992 (Heisei 4), the current President Koyama took over the business, and we have since been brewing and shipping special designation sake (tokuteimeishoshu) – ginjoshu, junmaisho, honjozoshu – to Tokyo and the capital city area. In recent years, we’ve been collecting yeast suitable for brewing sake – such as lavender or cherry blossoms – and we’ve come as far as receiving the top prize at last year’s Akita Prefecture Refined Sake Competition.
Our “Misatosekka” (meaning “Snowflake of Misato”) – made entirely with locally-sourced ingredients from Misato Town – is well-received. Since we put effort into its package design, it also makes a great gift.
We brew our sake with “Homonshimizu” water, one of the hundred selected nationally famous spring waters by the Ministry of the Environment, and with a handpicked strain of brewer’s rice. We cultivate our own yeast, and as a team, work hard to produce sake with new flavors.

Since we are a small brewery, we don’t have anything particularly exciting to show. But if you contact us ahead of time, we can arrange pictures of our house-cultivated yeast, and other things. (During sake brewing season, there may be times we cannot accommodate guests.)
